Buy Amethyst Jewelery

Buy Amethyst JeweleryWhen you want to buy amethyst jewelery there are a few thinks to keep in mind and that is the what where how. Amethyst jewelery comes in all sorts and types, from rings to necklaces, pendants and bracelets. The amethysts can come as many small stones, as in a necklace for example, or as a larger stone in a ring.

The first question is, what sort of amethyst jewelery are you looking for? This will determine the type of amethyst you should look for and where to buy it even.

Amethysts, you will find, are almost always heat treated. The purpose of this is to bring out the color better. Sometimes it is done to change the color of the stone as well. So one if the things you should check is to see if the amethyst has been heat treated or not. If so then it is likely a cheaper or less quality stone enhanced to look better.

Of course this may be ok with you. The look of the stone may be more important than the value and it will be a cheaper stone. Sometimes you can find the amethysts has been irradiated, even coated or dyed. Often this will decrease the value of the stone. It has, in rare occasions, increased the value, particularly with a bigger stone.

The deeper the hue or color of the stone the more it will be worth. If the stone is almost perfect with little or no flaws visible to the naked eye then it will be worth more. Of course there should be no flaws or scratches on the surface of the stone anywhere.

Jewelers are the traditional places to buy amethysts. If you are going to a jewelers to find an amethyst then pick a good quality one. You will be more likely to get a genuine good quality stone that way. If you are happy with mass produced amethyst jewelery then it is ok to go to one of the chain jewelery stores and see what they have. It will be at the lower end of the market of course.

It is a good idea to get a certificate if you possible can with your amethyst jewelery. Especially for the bigger stones. This is handy not just for the insurance but also for possible valuations and to ensure that you have got a stone that is indeed genuine and valuable.

When you find the amethyst jewelery you like and want, do not be afraid to bargain. Many jewelers these days will have a sufficiently good enough mark up to allow for bargaining, especially in these economic times.
